About me

Bio

Klaudia Niwa is a visual artist working in painting & illustration, as well as a designer making book design, branding and interior design. Her works characterize a strong use of colour with elements of whimsical playfulness. After graduating from a Collage of Art in Poland, Klaudia moved to Canada where she continued her studies at the Emily Carr University of Art and Design in Vancouver. During her years at the University, she developed a greater interest in painting and children’s book illustration as well as in studying art history. Klaudia is a recipient of the Idea Art Award 2015 and has her painting displayed at the Vancouver General Hospital. She currently lives in Kelowna BC and runs the local gallery where she further explores her interest in art, design and art history.

Artist Statement

Humour and playfulness are underlying themes throughout my practice as an artist, designer and storyteller. While either focusing on children or adult audience, my art often explores the narrative potential of images and the associative power of language within the work of art. My artworks often respond to a space they are situated in and I like to start my creative process by investigating the space and context in which my work will be presented. Whether presenting a painting that shares my personal experience or a picture book that touches on an environmental issue, I always strive to make artworks that people from multiple backgrounds and at different ages can identify with.
